MISSION
Climate Whistleblowers (CW) protects and supports climate whistleblowers – individuals who reveal climate crimes hidden by corporations or governments.
We strive to maximise the impact of these revelations through advocacy, media campaigns, and strategic litigation, working in partnership with investigators, journalists, lawyers, authorities, activists, and civil society actors.
Our mission is to create a society where environmental whistleblowers are protected, encouraged and heard by many – because their disclosures have the power to shape opinion and the behaviour of policymakers and economic actors.
THEORY OF CHANGE
We prompt change by empowering and acting on behalf of whistleblowers who expose climate-related abuses. We recognise them as crucial agents in the fight for climate justice and corporate and government accountability.
Most corporations and governments engage in actions that exacerbate the climate crisis and conceal these schemes from public view.
Countless concerned employees and citizens worldwide who have access to privileged information are seeking to expose these strategies. But when they do so, they are often silenced, purposely isolated, psychologically pressured and exposed to professional, reputational, legal, and even extreme physical threats.
Individual action on climate rarely shifts the systemic forces driving the crisis. Yet a single act can break through this barrier. By whistleblowing, an individual has rare power: they can expose hidden abuses, enhance accountability, and generate change.
CW is an organisation dedicated to protecting, supporting, and helping these individuals increase their impact.
In a nutshell, CW offers potential whistleblowers secure communication channels, provides them with legal, media, financial, physical and psychological support before, during and after disclosure, investigates their information, strategically litigates against wrongdoers when governments fail to act, and researches and advocates for preventive and protective legislation.
By protecting climate whistleblowers and putting their disclosures in a positive public spotlight, and by collaborating with investigators, journalists, lawyers, activists, authorities, and civil society actors to support whistleblowers on climate-related issues, we create a snowball effect in which more and more people feel empowered to blow the whistle and instigate change. Importantly, public-facing whistleblowers humanise the fight against climate change and inspire others to act.
This fuels civil society, media, legal actions and the climate movement with precise information and evidence on climate change. It will shed light on polluters’ obscure activities and help achieve the goal of building a better, safer world for future generations.
